Having worked as a freelance foreign correspondent for several years is nothing extraordinary. But in Central Asia it is. The region is politically complex, so it is not always possible for journalists to work freely.

I am always happy to share the journalistic skills that I have acquired, my experience as a journalist in the region and my excellent knowledge of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan with young fellow journalists, students, companies and other interested people.

Experience

That’s why I conducted and led the 9th Central Asian media workshop on radio journalism in 2015 as a consultant and trainer – a week-long workshop for young journalists from Central Asia (on behalf of Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen ifa, Deutsche Allgemeine Zeitung, Goethe-Institut, Friedrich Ebert Foundation).

In 2009, Central Asian journalists learned scientific journalism basics in a one-week media training course I conducted on reporting about natural disasters and hazards (on behalf of InWEnt, GFZ German Research Centre, Central Asian Institute for Applied Geosciences CAIAG).

In recent years, I have run several more one- to three-day workshops or lectures for the Goethe-Institut, the German-Kazakh University in Almaty, the OSCE Academy in Bishkek, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the GIZ German Corporation for International Cooperation, the Bautzen Rotary Club, the citizens’ Radio Radiomost in Kyrgyzstan Talas, and Air Astana.
